THE EASTER CROSS

On a Thursday evening, several years ago,  My wife, Wanda and I started to go to church. On the way, it struck me." Did someone put out the "Easter Cross"? Wanda said that she had no idea who it was.  She said she didn't know anything about it.  I started going over each man in the church,  We went in through the  front doors and prepared to celebrate Maundy Thursday with communion to partake. As  we both sang in the church choir, we had to get there a little early.  My mind was still working on it as we found our way back home.  Wanda had not come up with any names to ponder either.

Two days later, Easter Sunday, an early six A.M. call startled me and almost scared me  to death.    As I answered the phone, I noticed that it was still raining, heard the familiar voice of Carey Smith.  It seems that he was the secret man but this year, he needed help.

.  His problem was that he had not found any wood to build it with.  It was still raining cats and dogs, mostly dogs.  He said that he had spotted several pieces around town,

several places where wood was put out by the road but not a whole  lot to pick from. But mostly would I help find some wood and I answered that I would be more than happy to do it.  He said that he would pick me up in a few minutes and we would begin our quest.

Believe or not, it was still raining maybe more than before.   We found several places where wood had been stacked , but  nothing suitable for the job that we had to do.

We found several places where wood had been stacked but had since been picked up and disposed of.  Time was getting close.  It was still raining hard.

Finally,  I told Carey that it looked like we were going to have to go back to the church and try to find two pine trees suitable for what we wanted to do, He agreed so we took off back to the Church and parked in the rear next to the dumpster that was used during the construction of the new church  It was raining as hard as ever but we had to get out and look around. I was looking at something in the dumpster and found out that it was the sign placed in front of the building out  front by the road.  When it was tossed over into the dumpster, one board was broken in two.

We took out our hammers and dismantled the sign.  A tape measure showed that the longest was 4' x 4' x 8'.  The other one came out 4' x 4'x 4'. Perfect.  We didn't even have to trim much off of it. We took out our saws and notched  the two boards  together and using our posthole diggers, placed the cross in the ground and as fast as we could and got out of there  before anyone saw us. And once again,  if we follow HIS instruction,  he will lead us where he wants us to go.

Hey look. it has stopped raining.  The sun has come out.  HE IS RISEN  -  HE IS RISEN INDEED.

HAPPY EASTER
